Bobby Jones' golf clubs

Return to Stories

During the late 1920s, Tolmon Snow Wells, Dolly's father, used to oversee the setup of the uplines to broadcast the gold tournaments at Capital City Country Club.

Whenever Bobby Jones played in a new place, he was given a set of new golf clubs. When he played at the Stone Mountain course off Memorial Drive, he was also given a set. As this occurred, he looked over at Tolmon and asked if he knew how to play. Tolmon answered, "No, but I'll learn."

Leroy Sr. wanted the clubs after Tolmon's death, and Maggie remembered the story of the clubs vividly.
